Mario Baseball Cake

Warner is turning 9 and wanted a Mario birthday party, oh, and also a baseball party. So a Mario baseball cake it was. All figures are fondant. The sewer pipes are rice crispie treats.

How It all Began

My mom always made amazing birthday cakes for my siblings and me as we grew up. Of course that's how things had to be for my kids, and things have just gotten out of hand from there.

I started with simple cut-out cakes - cakes cut from a 9X13 pan and formed into shapes like rocking horses, teddy bears, etc. Or, I took the easy way out like when my son turned 2 and I was 9 months + pregnant with child #4, I just filled the back of a dumptruck with chocolate cupcakes. It was a "construction worker" party and it not only fit the theme, but my level of chaos at the time.

But then things got a little out of hand, and have gotten just this side of out of control from there. The pirate ship (see photo above) is one of my favorites, and it was an over-the-top sugar rush. And I was hooked. (no pun intended)

I love finding ways to use cookies, cake shapes, frosting and candies to create just about anything I want. "This is the best cake ever, Mom!" are sweet words to my ears.
