The baking is my least favorite part of decorating cakes. So it goes without saying that when things don't go well, I'm not too happy about it. You can't fix mistakes like you can when you're decorating.
My favorite chocolate cupcake batter is unpredictable. Some days it works beautifully, others -- well not so much (see below). They're called ugly cupcakes around here and as aggravating as they are for me, my boys are typically pretty happy about it.
I'm glad for them, but when mama ain't happy....
